Writing on a Wednesday #3: Earth Day
My eyes open and
The sun is shining
Golden on my shoulder
Speckling on petals
Of flowers in the soil;
Touching each
Strand of sight
That has not yet been
Shrouded in shadow
My feet crunch
One in front of
The other
With rich
Chocolate earth
Oozing in between
My toes
Gliding effortlessly
As if my body
Is moving out of
Its own volition
I can’t remember
How I found myself
Here
Or how I came to
Be walking
Towards a destination
Unknown
My mind
Runs rampant
With dates
And times
And plans
I do not yet know
Are not set
In stone
But still my legs
Carry me to and fro
Onward
Onward
Into the daylight
I go
I turn my gaze
Upward
To the canopied
Radiant blanket
Allowing my ears
To fill with the
Sweet song of
The birds
The bees
And the trees
Above
The colors are
Overwhelming
Wonderful
Exhilarating
Yellows and
Greens and
Browns and
Maybe soft pinks
All coexisting as one
I felt all of the
Confusion and
Disdain wash away
As I released the control
And welcomed the peace
Of presence and now
The wind
Reached out
And caressed my
Face
As if I was a long
Lost friend
Late to the date
And just as I
Felt the smallest
Smile blush
Across my cheeks
A figure
Appeared
In a whimsical
Dazzling haze
Right there
In front of me
For a moment
I was
Stunned
Mystified
And then
Exposed
When the face
I realized
I was looking
Upon
Was my own
In an instant
She was there
And she said
In a whisper
“Do not fear
Gentle one
Your breath
Is her breath;
Your body
Is her body;
Her power is
Within you;
Her love
Nourishes you;
Your soul is held
In the arms of
Mother Earth
So trust trust”
That
My higher soul
Was gone
And back I was
In my bed
In my room
And all was well
But even in
Custom
Confined walls
With familiar
Callings and
The warmth
Of love
I heard the rap
At the window
The light
Whistle outside
I twirled the beams
Of sweet moonlight
Between my fingers
And I knew great
Mother was with me
Within me
Always
